Bayern hit Paderborn for six as Robert Lewandowski stars

Bayern Munich added six goals to the eight they scored last weekend to move 11 points clear of Wolfsburg at the top of the Bundesliga thanks to a 6-0 win at Paderborn.

Robert Lewandowski scored their first two before Arjen Robben put the result beyond doubt from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute, after Florian Hartherz was shown a red card.

Franck Ribery and Mitchell Weiser also got in on the act before Robben rounded things off as Bayern maintained their march towards a third straight Bundesliga title, making up for their failure to score once in Ukraine in midweek.

It would have been easy for Paderborn to deploy the tactics used successfully by Shakhtar Donetsk to frustrate Bayern in the Champions League in midweek, but that is just not their style.

They may have taken some knocks since being promoted to the German top flight for the first time in their history last year, but they have dished plenty out too with their fearless style of play.

However, Bayern took full advantage of their first opportunity of the game and, from Robben's flick, Lewandowski ensured Bayern's first shot on goal in the 24th minute found the back of the net.

The second also went in with Ribery rescuing a wayward effort from Thomas Muller and pulling it back across goal for Lewandowski to meet, foot outstretched, to make it two in the 37th minute.

Paderborn came out fighting at the start of the second half and Alban Meha tried to lob Manuel Neuer from near the halfway line, finding only the roof of the net.

Elias Kachunga hit another good chance wide, but the game was effectively ended in the 63rd minute when Hartherz was shown the red card for a foul on Robben inside the penalty area.

Robben asked to take the penalty over regular taker Muller, thanking his team-mate as soon as the ball hit the back of the net.

Ribery added the fourth 10 minutes later when the ball fell kindly for him just behind the penalty spot and he swept it past Lukas Kruse.

Bayern's fifth was arguably their best with Weiser lobbing Kruse from the right-hand side of the penalty area for his first Bundesliga goal, and one he is likely to remember for a while.

Robben's second was not so memorable, but they all count as he turned in Ribery's cross to earn Bayern another convincing Bundesliga win.
