Moldova 0-1 Liechtenstein

Franz Burgmeier's second-half free kick earned Liechtenstein their first win of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign as they beat Moldova 1-0.

Liechtenstein skipper Burgmeier dipped a superb strike over the wall from the edge of the box and that was enough to settle a turgid contest between the two bottom-placed sides in Group G at the Zimbru Stadium.

The loss leaves hosts Moldova as the only team in the group still searching for their first win and they now prop up the standings as Liechtenstein leapfrog them.

The hosts dominated proceedings almost immediately, but they were unable to convert their possession into clear-cut chances.

Instead, they had to resort to long-range strikes, with Artur Ionita and Radu Ginsari both trying their luck without much success from distance early on.

Liechtenstein, who had not scored a goal in qualifying before the game, had a few token pot shots of their own but most of their efforts went into stopping their opponents.

That pattern continued into the second half, but in the 74th minute the visitors punished Moldova.

Burgmeier found the top left corner with a sensational free kick from 20 years that Moldova keeper Ilie Cebanu was helpless to stop.

It was a fitting way to seal the contest as Moldova were unable to prevent their slide to the bottom of Group G with a toothless late flurry.
