Harry Kane comes on, scores hat trick in Bayern Munich rout

Harry Kane came off the bench to score a stunning hat trick in the space of 23 minutes as Bayern Munich romped to a 5-0 Bundesliga win away to Stuttgart.

Bayern had taken an early lead through Konrad Laimer but were struggling to finish off the hosts, who started the day unbeaten at home, prompting Vincent Kompany to turn to Kane on the hour mark.

The England captain needed only six minutes to get his first of the afternoon before fellow substitute Josip Stanisic made it 3-0, 12 minutes later.

The wheels then fell off for Stuttgart with Lorenz Assignon sent off for blocking Michael Olise's shot with a hand, allowing Kane to get his second from the penalty spot before he turned in Olise's cross late on to complete his hat-trick and round off a 12th league win out of 13 for Bayern.

Stuttgart would have been braced for a tough afternoon and immediately came under pressure with Ameen Al-Dakhil booked for a foul on Nicolas Jackson inside two minutes and Jamie Leweling following him into the book two minutes later.

Maximilian Mittelstädt then went close for the hosts but put his shot wide from close range and - moments later - Bayern led as Laimer's cute backheel from Olise's cross found the net.

Stuttgart responded well with Josha Vagnoman firing into the side-netting before Mittelstadt saw a shot blocked by Joshua Kimmich.

At the other end Olise cut in from the right and hit a fizzing left-footed strike which slipped through the hands of Alexander Nübel, who was grateful to see the ball trickle wide.

Stuttgart had the ball in the net four minutes before half-time but after a lengthy VAR check, Nikolas Nartey was deemed to be offside as he turned in Bilal El Khannouss' free-kick, and the first-half ended with Chema Andrés sending a shot just wide of the post.

Bayern looked stronger at the start of the second half but were still struggling to kill it off, and after watching Jonas Urbig make a fine save to keep out a deflected Deniz Undav strike, Kompany sent on Kane as part of a triple substitution.

Kane soon set up Luis Díaz but, unmarked in front of goal, he somehow put it wide. But there was no mistake seconds later when Kane hit an unstoppable shot from outside the box.

Nubel made a fine save to deny Kane in the 76th minute but Bayern were rampant now and it was 3-0 when the goalkeeper fumbled Stanisic's shot from Diaz's cross.

Stuttgart crumbled. After Assignon used a hand to keep out Olise's shot he headed for an early shower and Kane sent Nubel the wrong way from the spot.

With two minutes of the 90 left, he wrapped up a quickfire hat-trick, turning in Olise's cross from the right to move on to 28 club goals for the season.
