Greenwood scores again as Marseille brush aside Angers

Mason Greenwood continued his hot scoring streak as Marseille kept up the pressure at the top of Ligue 1 with a thumping 5-2 win over Angers.

Greenwood's goal was his ninth in his last seven appearances and followed up his hat trick in Marseille's 9-0 win over Bayeux in the Coupe de France last time out.

Amine Gouiri gave the visitors the perfect start on Saturday when he tucked away Amir Murillo's cross in the 19th minute.

Five minutes later former Manchester United forward Greenwood drilled in the second from the edge of the penalty area.

Hamed Traoré then latched on to Emerson Palmieri's through-ball to slot in the third.

Traore turned creator with the cross for United States international Timothy Weah to head home number four, before Amine Sbaï pulled one back in first-half stoppage time.

Greenwood was close to doubling his tally when his shot crashed back off the crossbar.

Igor Paixão scored Marseille's fifth with two minutes remaining before Jim Allevinah grabbed a second for Angers in stoppage time.

Third-placed Marseille remain eight points behind leaders Lens and seven adrift of Paris St Germain in second.
