Kansas City v North Carolina
Kansas City Current edge North Carolina Courage 1-0
The Kansas City Current, buoyed by Temwa Chawinga's goal in the eighth minute, beat the visiting North Carolina Courage 1-0 in an NWSL quarterfinal playoff game at CPKC Stadium on Saturday. It was the first home postseason match in Current history.
Chawinga, the NWSL Golden Boot winner, scored on a left-footed shot from close range following a fast break. Vanessa DiBernardo and Debinha were instrumental in setting up the play that led to the game's only goal. Almuth Schult made four crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.
Despite shots on goal by Ashley Sanchez and Narumi Miura, North Carolina couldn't find an equalizer.
The Current will next face the Pride in a semifinal in Orlando, Florida, next weekend.
