Seattle Reign edge Houston Dash 2-1

The Seattle Reign FC, buoyed by the efforts of Nérilia Mondésir, beat the Houston Dash 2-1 at Lumen Field on Saturday, snapping a five-game losing streak in which the Reign did not score any goals.

Olivia Athens opened the scoring for Seattle in the 22nd minute with a right-footed shot from the center of the box following a corner. However, Houston quickly responded three minutes later when Bárbara Olivieri converted a penalty kick to level the score at 1-1.

Mondesir's decisive goal came in the 65th minute with a close-range, right-footed shot that found its way to the center of the net. The victory improved Seattle's record to (6-5-14), while Houston fell to (5-6-14).

Athens was instrumental throughout, contributing one goal and one assist. Seattle's Emeri Adames also provided an assist and had three shots.

On defense, Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey made three crucial saves, while Lauren Barnes and Jordyn Bugg were solid at their positions despite each committing fouls that led to free kicks for Houston.

Olivieri was not only responsible for the Dash's lone goal but also created multiple opportunities, including drawing several fouls that resulted in set pieces. Sarah Puntigam added two shots on target for the Dash but couldn't find another breakthrough against Dickey's strong performance between posts.

Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell faced five shots on target from Seattle attackers and managed three saves but ultimately conceded twice.

Up next: Both teams are back in action Nov. 2. The Reign face the Pride at 5 p.m. ET at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida, while the Dash host Bay FC at 9:30 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.
