ISL 2022-23: Kerala Blasters beat Jamshedpur 3-1, extend unbeaten run to eight games

Kerala Blasters FC extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a commanding 3-1 win over Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Tuesday.

The victory takes Kerala Blasters to the third spot on the ISL table while Jamshedpur's ninth loss of the season sees them remain 10th.

The home side piled the pressure from the get-go with Sahal Abdul Samad and Adrian Luna narrowly missing the target in the opening five minutes. They took the lead four minutes later when Dimitrios Diamantakos drilled a low cross across the goal for Apostolos Giannou, who converted with a cheeky backheel finish.

Jamshedpur regained composure and restored parity in the 17th minute through Daniel Chukwu. Blasters goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill came out of his line to stop an attack but his clearance landed only as far as Chukwu, who chipped the ball from outside the box to level the scores.

Kerala Blasters seized control of the game at the half-hour mark when Jessel Carneiro's cross struck Boris Singh's arm and the home side was awarded a penalty. Diamantakos sent the 'keeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.

Jamshedpur kept Kerala Blasters quiet for the first 15 minutes of the second half, and Ishan Pandita was a threat, but they didn't carve out any clear-cut chances. However, there wasn't much Jamshedpur could do to stop Kerala Blasters' third goal.

Adrian Luna found space in midfield and started a spectacular team goal by running towards the box, making the first of a series of one-touch passes before busting the net. Luna exchanged passes with Samad after which Giannou and Diamantakos played a one-two before the latter teed it up for Luna. The Uruguayan fired a low left-footed drive to double the lead and round off the win for his side.

Kerala Blasters will look to continue their unbeaten run when they take on Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on January 7, while Jamshedpur FC host Chennaiyin FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on the same day.
