Dele Alli double sees Tottenham beat Bournemouth after another late scare
Tottenham Hotspur maintained their 100% start under Jose Mourinho with a 3-2 home win over Bournemouth.
Dele Alli scored a goal in either half before a rare Moussa Sissoko strike put the result beyond doubt, despite Harry Wilson's brace and a late scare.
After netting in the Champions League over Olympiakos on Tuesday, Alli struck again with 20 minutes gone when he was teed up by Son Heung-Min.
Toby Alderweireld had initiated that move, and it was another long pass from the Belgium defender that doubled Spurs' lead soon after half-time, Alli controlling and finishing past Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for his and Tottenham's second of the game.
The lift in mood around the club since Mourinho's arrival was illustrated by Sissoko scoring his first goal since October. Son was again the provider as the South Korea international's cross from the left was volleyed emphatically home by Sissoko on 69 minutes.
The only thing missing from a perfect day's work for Mourinho was a first clean sheet since taking over from Mauricio Pochettino a week-and-a-half ago. However, the Portuguese coach was to be denied when Wilson scored with a dead-ball strike that was too good for goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. Wilson then scored his his sixth goal of the season since arriving on loan from Liverpool in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
He could even have had claimed a shock point for Bournemouth and a hat trick before the final whistle, taking advantage of a late Tottenham collapse similar to the one that saw them concede two late goals in the 3-2 win at West Ham last week. However, the Wales international and teammate Callum Wilson conspired to let an open goal go begging due to a mix-up between the pair.
Tottenham's next match is a trip to Old Trafford to face Mourinho's old club Manchester United on Wednesday.
