Auckland City were knocked out of the Club World Cup at the first hurdle as Romarinho's first half goal was enough for United Arab Emirates' Al-Jazira to advance.
The New Zealanders had the most of possession but Al-Jazira had the better chances and called goalkeeper Zubikarai into action on more than one occasion.
However, the keeper was powerless to stop Romarinho's wonderful long range drive and Henk ten Cate's side progressed from the playoff.
Al-Jazira go on to face Urawa Red Diamonds in the quarterfinals -- the winner of which will meet Real Madrid on Dec. 13.
