Granada stun high-flying Sevilla to claim first win of La Liga season

Granada recorded their first La Liga win of the season at the 14th attempt as they put title-chasing Sevilla to the sword at Los Carmenes.

A goal in either half from Andreas Pereira and David Lomban, who had earlier made two crucial blocks to deny Sevilla, steered Granada to a 2-1 victory and off the bottom of the table.

Wissam Ben Yedder netted Sevilla's reply from the penalty spot late on but there was no time left to search for an equaliser as the Andalusian side missed the chance to increase the pressure on top two Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Jeremie Boga was the first to test Sergio Rico with a near-post effort in the second minute after Sevilla were caught in possession close to their own goal.

Sevilla threatened five minutes later when Joaquin Correa created space in the box and laid the ball into the path of Vitolo, but Lomban managed to throw his body in the way of the Spain international's shot and deflect it wide.

The opener went the hosts' way in the 27th minute as the impressive Uche led a break from the halfway line and moved the ball to Boga on the right.

The Frenchman twisted and turned and appeared to have delayed too long, but his eventual cutback found Pereira who swept home from close range.

Mariano came closest to equalising for Sevilla before the break as the ball broke to him on the left-hand side of the area. He cut inside and drilled a shot goalwards which beat goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, but Lomban made another vital block, this time on the goalline.

Granada doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Pereira's corner from the right was flicked on at the near post by Artem Kravets and Lomban got clear of his markers to tap home.

Ochoa kept out goalbound efforts from Luciano Vietto and Franco Vazquez to deny Sevilla a way back into the match, and substitute Wissam Ben Yedder's injury-time penalty proved to be the last kick.
