Marco Reus' late goal salvages Dortmund draw at Cologne

A late Marco Reus goal saved Borussia Dortmund from defeat at Cologne as Thomas Tuchel's men held on to sixth place with a 1-1 draw.

Artjoms Rudnevs had given Cologne a 29th-minute lead before Reus struck in the last minute to salvage a point, and keep them ahead of their hosts, who finished the game with 10 men after Salih Ozcan was sent off, in the Bundesliga standings.

Cologne had a good early chance when Rudnevs was put through by Anthony Modeste, but Roman Weidenfeller denied him, although the linesman's flag was raised anyway.

The offside flag at the other end rightly ruled out a goal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang minutes later, while it was then Cologne's turn to complain about an offside decision when Modeste would have been clean through.

Rudnevs headed Cologne in front just shy of the half-hour mark, rising with conviction to meet Jonas Hector's free-kick and leave Weidenfeller, who was angry with his defence, no chance.

Dortmund were lacking their usual sharpness in attack as Cologne sat back happily and waited for chances to break.

Reus went closer than any Dortmund player to equalising as the game entered its final 20 minutes, but his shot was saved at the near post by Thomas Kessler.

Moments later, Sokratis Papastathopoulos limped off with what appeared to be a serious injury, further spoiling Dortmund's day, which did not get any better when a penalty was not given for what appeared to be a clear handball inside the area as Adrian Ramos' header was blocked.

Dortmund's reward did finally come in the final minute when Reus turned Ramos' pass inside Kessler's near post.

Ozcan picked up his second yellow card in the last of the four minutes of stoppage time.
