Maicon launches Sao Paulo into the Copa Libertadores semifinals

Sao Paulo scored an all-important away goal against Atletico Mineiro to book their place in the Copa Libertadores semifinals on Wednesday.

Edgardo Bauza's side walked away with a 2-2 aggregate win, despite losing 2-1 to Atletico Mineiro in the second leg of the quarterfinal.

Atletico Mineiro stormed to a 2-0 lead in the opening 12 minutes in Belo Horizonte thanks to goals Juan Cazares and Carlos Carvalho.

Sao Paulo's Maicon, however, responded for the visitors three minutes later, tucking away an excellent corner from Kelvin.

Neither side could break the deadlock after a frantic opening quarter hour, with Mineiro's Leandro Donizete sent off in stoppage time as Sao Paulo progressed to the final four.
