Dortmund book DFB-Pokal final vs. Bayern Munich after defeat of Hertha

Borussia Dortmund will meet Bayern Munich in the final of the DFB-Pokal on May 21 after seeing off Hertha Berlin 3-0 in their semifinal clash on Wednesday.

Gonzalo Castro, Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan put a full-strength Dortmund side into their third straight cup final. Having lost the last two to Bayern and Wolfsburg respectively, they will hope it will be a case of third time lucky when they return to the capital next month.

Shinji Kagawa was the provider for the opening goal, with his cross causing confusion in the Hertha penalty area and the ball coming out for Castro, who curled his shot coolly into the top right-hand corner.

Reus lifted another good chance over the crossbar from close range before, just on stroke of half-time, Hertha had their best chance of the half with Jens Hegeler's shot saved by Roman Burki at his near post.

Salomon Kalou had the first big chance of the second half, but he could not divert the ball in from close range, and he then saw a header go agonisingly wide.

Hertha were continuing to press, urged on by a vociferous crowd, but a slip by John Anthony Brooks allowed Dortmund to hit them on the counter-attack, and they did just that with Kagawa pulling a pass back for Reus' clinical finish in the 75th minute.

The game was over five minutes later when Reus turned provider for Mkhitaryan to tap the ball into an unguarded goal from close range, and set up the final the neutrals would have wished for between the current top two teams in German football.
