Third-tier Alessandria defeat Spezia to reach Coppa Italia semfinals
Lega Pro club Alessandria will tackle Italian giants AC Milan in the semifinals of the Coppa Italia.
The Piedmontese minnows shocked Serie A opponents Palermo and Genoa on their way to reaching the last eight, where they were pitted against second-tier side Spezia.
Emanuele Calaio gave Spezia the lead with a first-half penalty but two late goals from Riccardo Bocalon made it 2-1 to Alessandria.
Their prize is the chance to face five-time cup winners Milan over two legs, with the Rossoneri first visiting the tiny Stadio Giuseppe Moccagatta before heading back to San Siro.
