Eder's equaliser earned Sampdoria a 1-1 draw in an evenly matched Serie A encounter against Empoli at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Thursday evening.

Manuel Pucciarelli had put the visitors ahead on the hour mark, receiving the ball with his back to goal and turning to fire a left-footed shot past Emiliano Viviano.

But the lead lasted only eight minutes before Eder got on the end of Fernando's cross and restored parity.

Eighteen-year-old Empoli substitute Assane Diousse was sent off a minute from time for a second bookable offence.

The result consolidated 10th place for Walter Zenga's Samp, and lifted Marco Giampaolo's Empoli to 13th in the standings.
