VfL Wolfsburg 0-2 FC Augsburg

Wolfsburg's hopes of qualifying for Europe next season were all but ended by an Augsburg side who moved a step closer to safety with a 2-0 win at the Volkswagen-Arena.Alfred Finnbogason gave Augsburg a dream start in the first minute and Halil Altintop doubled their lead with some dreadful Wolfsburg defending seeing them remain six points behind the top seven with three games of the season remaining.Augsburg will go into their final three games of the season with a five-point cushion over the relegation zone thanks to their third straight win.Max Kruse failed to control Dante's header and Finnbogason was allowed to lead the ball into the penalty area before threading his shot through the legs of Diego Benaglio to get Augsburg off to a flyer within 45 seconds.Finnbogason was involved in Augsburg's second goal after the interval with his shot only pushed away by Benaglio to Altintop, who was thankful to him for the gift of his first goal of the season.Finnbogason could and probably should have scored his second and Augsburg's third when yet another defensive mistake by Wolfsburg saw him faced with only Benaglio to beat, but he uncharacteristically shot too close to the Swiss goalkeeper, who saved his defence's blushes. The home fans started to make it clear what they thought of their side's probable failure to qualify for Europe next season, having seen them get further than ever before in reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League this term, but the motivation seemed to have drained out of their team. They can no longer qualify for the Champions League next season, while the Europa League may also be beyond them if other results go against them this weekend.ends
