SC Freiburg 2-0 Schalke 04

Freiburg picked up their second win of the season and their second in a row to compound travel-sick Schalke's woes with a 2-0 victory at the Dreisamstadion.Christian Gunter's first professional goal and a Jonathan Schmid effort in the second half were enough to earn Christian Streich's men all three points.Schalke coach Roberto Di Matteo, meanwhile, is left still searching for his first win away from home, despite boasting a perfect record in his three home matches since taking charge. That away form is starting to look worrying with Schalke falling into the bottom half of the table, just three points ahead of their hosts. It did not take long for Freiburg to show which side wanted to win this game the most. All Schalke had to show for their efforts was a penalty appeal which was waved away swiftly by the referee after Dennis Aogo went to ground easily.Freiburg were more constructive, even though it was a bit of luck which led to Admir Mehmedi setting up Gunter for his first goal at this level. The Swiss striker's cross was meant to be flashed across the goal, but it deflected off the heel of a Schalke defender and sat nicely for Gunter to beat Ralf Fahrmann from eight yards out.Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting tried to mount a recovery for Schalke, but it was Freiburg who continued to pose the greatest threat.Schmid could have doubled their lead, but Fahrmann did well to push his effort onto the underside of the crossbar. He did not leave Fahrmann with any chance with his next opportunity, though, picking his spot in the top left-hand corner of the goal from Aogo's weak headed clearance.Choupo-Moting went close to grabbing a late consolation for the Royal Blues, but Freiburg fully deserved their win for a stirring second-half performance.ends
