Gareth Bale named in Real Madrid squad after injury concerns

Gareth Bale has been included in the Real Madrid squad for Wednesday's La Liga game at Rayo Vallecano, despite fears over his fitness.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti announced at Tuesday's pregame news conference that Bale had a "small" problem with his foot, and was a doubt for the trip to Vallecas, leading to some reports that he could have a broken bone and miss the remainder of the campaign.

But those fears appear to have been unfounded, with the Wales international included in the 20-man squad announced for the game on Wednesday afternoon.

Ancelotti's mentioning of the issue may, however, now clear the way for Bale to be rested for the game, with Isco and fit-again James Rodriguez starting against an in-form Rayo side who have won their last four home games.

After going on a run of nine matches without scoring, Bale has now found the net five times in his last four games for club and country.

Even still, many Blancos fans and pundits argue that, when all Madrid's galacticos are fit, it should be the former Tottenham player who is benched.

Ancelotti, though, has always picked the €100 million signing for the biggest games since the pair arrived at the club in summer 2013.

Dani Carvajal returns to the Madrid squad after being rested for Sunday's 9-1 hammering of Granada at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

He is expected to come into the XI at right-back in place of Alvaro Arbeloa, who is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Granada.

But there is no place in the 20-man squad for Sami Khedira, who according to some local reports has already played his last game for the club.
