Real Madrid confirm James Rodriguez suffered muscle injury against Celta

Real Madrid have announced that midfielder James Rodriguez has suffered a muscle injury to his right leg.

The Colombia international was hurt during the 3-0 home win over Celta Vigo on Saturday, but Bernabeu officials have not revealed how long he is expected to be sidelined for.

In a statement, the club said Rodriguez, 23, "has been diagnosed with a grade 1 muscle injury" in his right calf.

Madrid, safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, face Ludogorets in their final group game on Tuesday and Almeria in La Liga on Friday.

Their statement said: "Following tests carried out on James Rodriguez by the Real Madrid Sanitas medical services, he has been diagnosed with a grade 1 muscular injury in the medial gastrocnemius of his right leg.

"His progress will be monitored."
