Adrien Rabiot 'a PSG hostage' at club - agent

Adrien Rabiot is "a PSG hostage," according to mother and agent Veronique.

The France international, 23, has been suspended by the Ligue 1 leaders until March 27 after being spotted at a nightclub in the wake of the Champions League exit to Manchester United and liking a provocative video posted by former France defender Patrice Evra.

"Adrien is a prisoner -- a PSG hostage," Veronique told L'Equipe. "Soon it will be dry bread, water and the dungeon for him -- it is a cruel environment!"

Rabiot has been frozen out of the senior picture at PSG since late 2018 and criticised on multiple occasions by sporting director Antero Henrique after refusing to sign a new contract with the club.

Veronique admitted Rabiot has struggled to cope with being marginalised at Parc des Princes and confirmed he is still training despite being banned from the training ground.

"I am not crying and looking for sympathy, nor trying to weaken Adrien further by saying that he is not coping well, but his human side is under attack," she said. "I will simply say that he is taking all of this very badly since the start.

"Adrien is training since he was suspended, but I will not tell you where, with whom and how."

Veronique also believes her son makes a convenient scapegoat for PSG following their struggles in Europe while she also took aim at superstar Neymar for his recent behaviour while injured.

"It is easier for PSG to speak about us and make stories up about Adrien than to face facts and find solutions for this club to become efficient and effective on the pitch!" she added.

"At PSG, there are players who are six minutes late because they were napping [Rabiot was sanctioned and dropped against Marseille away in Ligue 1 for missing a prematch team talk by that amount of time], while others can go and party on the other side of the world at the Rio carnival when they are injured."

Rabiot will meet with PSG next week but sources have told ESPN FC he will not be sacked. Rabiot is also out of favour with French coach Didier Deschamps after rejecting a World Cup 2018 reserve role.
