Roma have invited Napoli legend Diego Maradona to be a guest of honour at Friday night’s top-of-the-table clash between the two sides.

The Argentinean is spending a few days in Italy and, although he is due to be in Milan, the Giallorossi have offered to lay on a private jet and car to the the Pibe de Oro to make an appearance at the-top-of-the-table clash.

"It’s true, and it’s a great sporting sign from a great club to invite Maradona to the Olimpico," Maradona’s solicitor Angelo Pisani told Radio Crc. "Even if Maradona could give Napoli a boost by being present, Roma have invited him and that’s an honourable sign in the world of football.

"Roma have offered to organise everything, from a car to a plane, but time is going to be tight and we cannot know today if he will accept or not, but Diego is delighted by the organisation and the invite from Roma, even if he would be a rival for the Giallorossi."

While Maradona may not take up the offer, Pisani says it would not be a surprise if he were to hop into a private jet and fly over Rome, just to satisfy another whim.

"We all know the Pibe well and he has an incredible fantast, so it would not be a surprise if he decided to go to Naples to eat a pizza," he added.

There, a man regarded as a Saint could soon be joined by the Pope, who can expect a summons from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to arrive in the very near future.

"I will officially invite him to the San Paolo when he has the time,” De Laurentiis said on his official Twitter account. I hope he can come for Napoli-Juventus or Napoli-Arsenal."
