Mexico's Ochoa wants to win Gold Cup for son

CHICAGO -- Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is hoping to bring home the Gold Cup in one hand and Buzz Lightyear in the other.

The 33-year-old El Tri veteran has been instrumental in Mexico's run to Sunday's final against the United States in a squad without many of its bigger names, but didn't think about not showing up to the tournament, despite becoming a father for the third time just days before the tournament.

"[I] never [thought about not showing up], we actually made the calculations, everything worked out, it was perfect," Ochoa said in an interview with ESPN's Mauricio Ymay. "We did it really well. My daughter was born and then I had time to come to the Gold Cup."

Ochoa has been photographed arriving at hotels during the tournament carrying a Buzz Lightyear toy and is confident it won't be the only thing he brings back home.

"I'm carrying [Buzz Lightyear] for my son, we're hoping to bring him the Gold Cup and Buzz Lightyear as well," Ochoa said.

The goalkeeper, who is on the lookout for a new team this summer after his contract with Standard Liege ran down, wasn't bothered if Mexico got the U.S. or Jamaica in the final and doesn't think El Tri needs to show that it is the "giant" of the CONCACAF region.

"We do that every time we go to the World Cup," Ochoa said. "Mexico is the team in beat in the region; in a game of football anything can happen, but we know that we have at the ability to win the cup and we want it, just like the fans and we'll give everything in the game."

Mexico is looking to win its eighth Gold Cup on Sunday, while the United States -- who missed out on the last World Cup -- is hoping for its seventh regional trophy.
