Monterrey go top, Lobos BUAP soaring up Liga MX Power Rankings

Seven teams have yet to win their first game of the 2017 Apertura -- among them, the current Liga MX champions, Chivas. This past weekend included the first of Liga MX's important derbies and the Clasico Capitalino didn't fail to impress.

Here are Week 3's Liga MX Power Rankings:

1. MONTERREY (+1)
Monterrey is the only team in the Apertura to have yet concede a goal and in its 3-0 victory over Xolos, Aviles Hurtado scored his first first two goals for the Monterrey side. Next up is a match against Chivas at Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

2. TIGRES UANL (-1)
Although Tigres only drew 1-1 against Queretaro, one of the worries is how vulnerable the defense looked when Queretaro counter-attacked. Yet Lucas Zelarayan's current form continues to be an asset. Zelarayan finished Saturday's game with a 96 percent passing accuracy.

3. TOLUCA (+2)
Coming from behind to win 3-2 against Atlas should be a major boost for Hernan Cristante's side. Enrique Triverio and Mateus Goncalves came off the bench and their goals gave Los Diablos Rojos the win. There's depth in the team that is beginning to show itself.

4. CLUB AMERICA (+2)
There were 31 fouls in Saturday's Clasico Capitalino, which made for a choppy, stop-start game. America had two penalties and executed both with Panenkas. One of them was denied and the other found the net, giving America a 2-1 win over Pumas.

5. ATLAS (-2)
After 80 minutes at Estadio Nemesio Diez, the score was 2-1 in favor of Atlas. It appeared that Los Rojinegros were going to extend their winning streak to three straight games but in a span of three minutes, between minutes 82 and 85, Toluca scored twice. Atlas left Toluca with a tough 3-2 defeat.

6. LOBOS BUAP (+4)
Lobos BUAP are on top of the table! Twenty-year-old Colombian striker Julian Quinones has scored three goals and although Pachuca almost came back into game after being down 3-0, the Puebla side got a convincing 3-2 win.

7. CHIVAS (-3)
Chivas have started the new season with three straight draws though the recent one against Necaxa felt a bit like a loss because Matias Almeyda's side was up 2-0 after 20 minutes only to let it slip. It's taking time for the defending champions to find form.

8. NECAXA (no change)
Necaxa is showing signs of improvement. Former coach Alfonso Sosa and current Ignacio "Nacho" Ambriz have similar ideologies, which has ease the transition from one coach to the other. The manner it came back to tie 2-2 against Chivas shouldn't go unnoticed.

9. CRUZ AZUL (no change)
After seeing Leon score in the 90th minute to get a 2-2 draw against Cruz Azul, not all is lost for La Maquina because Felipe Mora scored his first goal of the Apertura and academy product Victor Zuniga gave a good showing with the minutes Paco Jemez gave him.

10. SANTOS LAGUNA (-3)
Santos has played against two of the best sides to start off this new season in Tigres and Lobos BUAP. The fact that Los Guerreros got two draws in those games without captain Carlos Izquierdoz should be seen as a positive.

11. QUERETARO (+2)
Jaime Lozano's team has a draw, win and loss to start the Apertura and the team still appears to be coming together. Academy player Aldo Arellano and Colombian defender Alexis Perez showed interesting details in Los Gallos' 1-1 tie against Tigres.

12. MORELIA (+3)
It took three weeks for Peruvian striker Raul Ruidiaz to appear in Morelia's XI and now that he's fully prepared to take on the busy season, their winning chances will increase.

13. PACHUCA (-2)
Pachuca's start to the season is atypical and it's taken the league by surprise because Los Tuzos can be regarded as one of the league's most consistent in recent times. However, now comes a visit from Tigres; who knows what will happen.

14. PUMAS UNAM (no change)
Pressure is mounting for manager Francisco Palencia as he sees his Pumas not being able to get wins. The current leader, Lobos BUAP, will visit Ciudad Universitaria in a game where the team must show noticeable improvements after back-to-back defeats.

15. CLUB TIJUANA (-3)
If Pachuca's start has been a letdown, Xolos' start is even worse because Eduardo Coudet's team hasn't even scored a goal. The Tijuana side has averaged close to three shots on goal per game, which means that there's a lot of work to do.

16. VERACRUZ (+1)
Getting the win over Puebla was important for Juan Antonio Luna's side because it gives Los Tiburones Rojos an opportunity to start over and make a positive run early on in the season.

17. LEON (+1)
Just when the night was heading toward disaster, defender Osvaldo Rodriguez connected a header in the 90th minute that found the back of the net. Rodriguez's big goal gave Leon its first point of the Apertura.

18. PUEBLA (-2)
If there's a team already in deep trouble to start off the season, it's Puebla, and the reason for it is because it looks like not all the players are on the same page. There were a series of distractions that were plain out embarrassing in Los Camoteros' 2-0 loss to Veracruz.
