Marcus Rashford to start after joining Man United late ahead of Chelsea

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has recovered from an illness in time to be named to Jose Mourinho's starting XI to face Chelsea on Monday in the FA Cup.

The England youngster was originally left behind as United travelled to London, but he was later able to join up with the team.

Rashford's inclusion is important as United would otherwise be without a recognised forward.

FA Cup holders United are already without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the quarterfinal tie against the Premier League leaders, while Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial will miss out because of injuries.

Rashford, Rooney and Martial failed to join the rest of the United squad as they boarded a train to London from Stockport on Sunday afternoon, with sources subsequently confirming the reason for their absence.

Rooney, who missed the Europa League round-of-16 trip to Russia for last Thursday's 1-1 draw against FC Rostov, was injured in training on Sunday following a collision with teammate Phil Jones.

If Rashford had not been able to go, Mourinho had been expected to turn to Marouane Fellaini at centre-forward with Juan Mata or Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the nearest supporting role.

Instead, Fellaini was named to the bench along with Mata, while Mkhitaryan and Ashley Young make the XI.

On Thursday, United host Rostov at Old Trafford. Ibrahimovic, who starts a three-game domestic suspension against Chelsea, will be available for that match.

Man United XI: David De Gea; Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo; Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Matteo Darmian; Ashley Young, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford

Chelsea XI: Thibaut Courtois; Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Gary Cahill; Victor Moses, N'Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Alonso; Willian, Diego Costa, Eden Hazard
