Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo 'happy' with derby display

MANCHESTER, England -- Claudio Bravo came through his first Manchester derby with a victory and insisted he was happy with how his debut had gone.

The Chile international made his first Manchester City appearance in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Saturday following his £13.5 million move from Barcelona in the summer.

But it wasn't an easy afternoon for Bravo, who was culpable on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal that gave United a lifeline at the end of the first half. He dropped Wayne Rooney's straightforward free kick at the Swedish striker's feet to score after Kevin De Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho had given City a two-goal lead.

United boss Jose Mourinho felt Bravo should have been sent off later -- and United awarded a penalty -- for his strong tackle on Rooney in the second half after he almost gave the ball away with his poor ball control.

It was a tough introduction to life in the Premier League for Bravo, who was already at the centre of attention after Pep Guardiola's decision to bring him in as his new No. 1 and allow England keeper Joe Hart to leave for Torino on loan.

However, the City boss was delighted with his performance and had a positive reaction to his error and Bravo is also pleased with his start to his City career. Asked how he felt his debut had gone, he told reporters: "Good, good -- comfortable.

"We have a team here that has personality, we are improving day-by-day and the matches that we want to win are these, against our rivals, and for that reason I am happy.

"I am happy with my first week, with the work I have done."

United put City under more pressure in the second half as they pushed for an equaliser. Mourinho moved Marouane Fellaini up alongside Ibrahimovic and pumped high balls into the City box to test Bravo's ability in the air following his error in the first half.

Guardiola's side held firm to claim the three points and maintain their 100 percent record to remain top of the Premier League.

"It was a very important victory for us," Bravo added. "In the first half we were incredible when we controlled the ball, had lots of chances and in the second half we played differently, defensively we were very, very solid.

"We played well against a very big team and a team that was very strong and they kept putting the ball in the air to try and complicate things but we survived."

City winger Nolito also praised Bravo's debut and says the keeper will be a huge asset to the side.

"I think Claudio Bravo is a magnificent goalkeeper, a spectacular goalkeeper," the Spain international said. "We are very happy that he is here with us. We are very relaxed with him and that's it.

"It's a special day for him because making your debut in a derby like this is not easy. And I thought he played well and I am happy he signed for us, so congratulations to him. I am happy that he is with us and he played well."
