United States' Jermaine Jones unhappy with Revolution offer

United States national team member Jermaine Jones would like to rejoin the New England Revolution, but won't accept the wage cut the team has offered him, the midfielder revealed in a tweet on Friday.

Jones, who last week was suspended for six games and fined an undisclosed amount by MLS for what the league deemed to be a case of referee assault, is currently out of contract after spending the past season and a half in New England.

Said Jones: "I would like to return to @nerevolution but they have offered me less than 20% of what I made last year."

One source with knowledge of his suspension indicated that the former Besiktas man, who received a base salary of $2.8 million in 2015, has been entertaining offers from overseas clubs should a deal with New England fall through.

If Jones does sign with a club from outside MLS, however, he will still have to serve the suspension per FIFA regulations, but the ban might be completed by the time the U.S. plays Guatemala in a pair of World Cup qualifiers in late March.

If Jones signs with an MLS club, the suspension will last well into April, meaning he'll miss both matches against Guatemala. Jones played in the Americans' two most recent World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as Trinidad and Tobago.
