Sol Campbell appointed manager of Macclesfield Town on 18-month deal

Former Arsenal and England defender Sol Campbell has been appointed manager of League Two side Macclesfield Town on an 18-month contract.

Campbell joins with the side sitting bottom of the table having picked up 10 points from 19 games, and seven points from safety.

The club, promoted back into the Football League last season, has been without a manager since Mark Yates was sacked on Oct 8 after failing to win any of their first 12 league games.

Since retiring from playing in 2012, Campbell has been searching for a job in management, and was appointed assistant coach of the Trinidad and Tobago national team in January 2017.

He has also worked as part of the coaching staff of the England under-21 side, but this will be Campbell's first job in a managerial role.
