Buy-out clauses important to Juventus success - Giuseppe Marotta

Juventus' general manager Beppe Marotta says he is happy with his club's transfer activities in the summer, with the sale of Paul Pogba helping offset investments in Gonzalo Higuain and Miralem Pjanic.

The Bianconeri were one of the more active clubs in the summer transfer window, setting new domestic and European records.

Two signings came as a result of them activating release clauses which Marotta says he is constantly monitoring in a bid to beat rivals to big names.

"Over the summer we were able to take advantage of the buy-out clauses of two very important players, Gonzalo Higuain and Miralem Pjanic," he said at a news conference in Turin on Tuesday, after the club presented their annual financial results to stakeholders. "This kind of clause is common across the world of football and it is our duty to ensure that we are aware of any opportunities to move for quality players wherever possible."

Marotta has also made it a habit of deferring payments for players by taking them on initial loan deals, spreading the cost of an eventual permanent signing over years rather than having to fork out a lump sum.

That is the case with Juan Cuadrado, who has arrived on a three-year loan from Chelsea which will only cost Juve more money if they are successful during the Colombian's time with them.

"We pay €5 million a year for three years for Cuadrado, but if we win the Scudetto, we are obliged to sign him for €20m," Marotta said. "Even [Simone] Zaza is on loan at West Ham for €5m, who are obliged to sign him after 14 appearances.

"[Kingsley] Coman can stay at Bayern for €21m and I believe they will sign him. If not, he comes back to us as a valuable youngster."

All in all, Juve posted a €4.1m profit from the financial year ending June 30, 2016.
