MLS expansion club Inter Miami added to its scoring capabilities Friday with the acquisition of forward Lewis Morgan from Scottish powerhouse Celtic. The club also acquired U.S. international midfielder and longtime Columbus Crew player Wil Trapp in a trade in which Inter sent $100,000 in general allocation money and an international roster spot the other way. Columbus could receive up to an additional $200,000 if other undisclosed conditions are met. The 23-year-old Morgan, who was acquired for an undisclosed fee, plays on the wing, and has made 31 appearances for Celtic over the past two seasons. He also spent time last season with third-tier Sunderland in England and has made two appearances with the Scotland national team. "Lewis is an exciting player that will contribute to our attack," said sporting director Paul McDonough in a statement. "He is a pacey and dynamic player who operates well in space. He has shown his quality in Scotland and in England and we're happy to acquire him." Trapp, a 27-year-old midfielder, captained the Crew for the first time in 2014 and had been permanent captain for the past three seasons. He appeared in just over 200 games with the Crew over seven seasons and has made 20 appearances with the U.S. men's national team. "Wil is one of the most respected leaders in American soccer," Inter Miami Sporting Director Paul McDonough said. "He has served as captain at both the club and international levels and fits the culture we are building here in South Florida." Inter Miami head coach Diego Alonso now has a group of five forwards in the fold that include Juan Agudelo, Julian Carranza, Jerome Kiesewetter, Robbie Robinson and Morgan. Reports in the U.S. say the club is looking to add a designated player to that group, with an attempt to move for Atletico Madrid striker Edinson Cavani in recent weeks never materialized.
