Luiz Felipe Scolari rues Guangzhou Evergrande's missed opportunities

Luiz Felipe Scolari was left puzzled by his team's inability to turn their dominance into more goals as Guangzhou Evergrande were held to a 1-1 draw by Japan's Kawasaki Frontale in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday evening.

A penalty in added-time from Yu Kobayashi cancelled out Alan Carvalho's opener in the 26th minute for Guangzhou, who created numerous chances -- particularly in the first half -- but were unable to claim all three points.

"We didn't take full control of our own opportunities," Scolari, who side have won one and drawn two of their matches in the group stages of the competition so far, said. "Usually we won't miss chances like this.

"We didn't nail down early qualification from the group even though the chances we created were double the number of theirs. It is truly a pity."

Guangzhou still lead their group on goal difference from second placed Suwon Bluewings, who defeated Hong Kong's Eastern 1-0 on Tuesday evening, while Kawasaki are third having drawn all three of their fixtures so far in the competition.

Scolari's team missed a series of chances, particularly in the first 45 minutes, and they were to rue those when Yu Hanchao handled the ball inside his own area in stoppage time at the end of the game and Kobayashi calmly converted from the spot.

"Kawasaki controlled the game, but we should have controlled our own chances," Scolari, whose team have now won only once in their last four matches in all competitions, said.

"I made the same request [to the players] for both halves: grasp every chance we have. We should have won 3-2, but we didn't."
