PSG's Kylian Mbappe can be next Lionel Messi if he handles fame - Samuel Eto'o

Samuel Eto'o has told France Football that Kylian Mbappe should follow Lionel Messi's example to succeed the Barcelona star at the top of the world game.

Mbappe, 19, looks to have the potential to become a football icon after two exceptional seasons in France, first at Monaco and now alongside Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain.

Eto'o played with Messi during his five years at Barca, and sees Mbappe following the same trajectory as the Argentina international if he can keep his feet on the ground as his career takes off.

"He's the future Messi if he handles his status well, if he understands well what goes on around his name," Eto'o, who is now at Turkish club Konyaspor, said.

"There are so many things to take into account to have a great career which have nothing to do with your football qualities, even exceptional ones. I hope to have the chance to talk to him about it one day.

"Kylian can get inspiration from the superhuman mental strength of Leo Messi, whom I saw grow up at Barca. He continues to make games easy by creating something each second. He's unique, but he's stayed the little kid I discovered in 2004, respectful, discreet. Others would have gone mad with global fame."
