Benoit Assou-Ekotto responds to Kylian Mbappe as feud grows

Metz's Benoit Assou-Ekotto tweeted his latest barb at Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe -- the latest in an ongoing feud that began in September last year.

Assou-Ekotto, 33, has taken exception to Mbappe, 19, speaking of his desire to honour his African family roots by helping sport on his parents' continent of birth after dining with French president Emmanuel Macron and Liberian counterpart George Weah last week.

In his latest Twitter outburst towards the France international, the former Cameroon man appeared unsatisfied by the PSG man's response to his initial tweet.

"A lion that copies another lion becomes a monkey..." Assou-Ekotto wrote in French.

He then added "V.H..." before posting former American president Barack Obama's famous microphone drop, suggesting that he is pleased with his response to Mbappe.

Last week, Assou-Ekotto criticised Mbappe's comments about African sport, suggesting he was self-aggrandising.

"These European players of African origin, who have Africa in their hearts and want to help African sport, bla bla bla, while choosing to play for a European team," Assou-Ekotto wrote. "You make me laugh! It looks good when you have a good cause, though."

Mbappe responded in part by reminding Assou-Ekotto that he was part of the Cameroon squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and infamously head-butted teammate Benjamin Moukandjo as Volker Finke's men imploded and finished bottom of Group A, pointless and with a solitary goal to show for their campaign.

"These European players of African origin, who have Africa in their hearts and want to help African sport, bla bla bla, while fighting with an international teammate back in 2014..." replied Mbappe. "You make me laugh... However, these are your values."

Bad blood has existed between Assou-Ekotto and Mbappe since the pair clashed earlier this season in Metz.

Mbappe scored on his PSG debut in a 5-1 win back in September and Assou-Ekotto was sent off for a foul on the former Monaco man.

The pair will meet again on the pitch next month at Parc des Princes which promises to be a spicy individual battle.
