The upcoming FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup scheduled to be held in India has been cancelled. Initially scheduled for November 2020, it had been postponed to February and March 2021 due to the pandemic.

Instead, India will be awarded the hosting rights for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup as decided. The decision was made on Tuesday at a virtual meeting of the FIFA Council.

This, from their statement -- "As part of this extensive consultation process and the 'health and safety first' approach FIFA has taken, further major concerns in several areas were also raised by stakeholders during this process in relation to the hosting of age-group tournaments scheduled for 2020. These concerns included, amongst others, challenges around preparation time for age-group teams, and the numerous obstacles to finalising the continental qualification tournaments due to the pandemic."

Along with the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup was also cancelled, with the earlier hosts Costa Rica approved as hosts for the 2022 FIFA U-20 WWC.

In the same meeting, FIFA also announced that the 2020 Club World Cup would be shifted from December this year to February 1-11, 2021 due to the fact that the AFC contintenal competitions are scheduled to be concluded by the end of January 2021.
