Bundesliga strugglers Ingolstadt name Maik Walpurgis as new coach

Ingolstadt has named Bundesliga novice Maik Walpurgis as their new coach.

Walpurgis last coached third-division Osnabruck, where he was fired in August 2015.

Bundesliga strugglers Ingolstadt said on Saturday that Walpurgis signed a contract until mid-2018.

The club fired Markus Kauczinski last Sunday and appointed Michael Henke as acting coach until finding a long-term solution.

Ingolstadt are second bottom in the Bundesliga with two points from 10 rounds.

The club said Walpurgis was a "very ambitious coach with a clear philosophy."

Walpurgis told media: "I'm glad to be part of this club. Together we will try everything to remain in the Bundesliga.

"It's important that every person in and around this club works as part of a big team! It will be tough but we can do it.

"The team has to regain the passion for football and the urge to win. I spoke with them today and I'm very confident!"
