Sources: Cincinnati to name Jans as next boss

Ron Jans has been tabbed to be the next manager of FC Cincinnati, multiple sources have confirmed to ESPN FC.

The Athletic was the first to report Jans' hiring. One source added that only the "last details" are still to be worked out, and that a formal announcement is expected next week.

Jans, 60, takes over for Yoann Damet, who has been managing the team on an interim basis since the firing of Alan Koch back in May. Damet went 4-9-0 in all competitions, and FCC remains rooted to the bottom of the Eastern Conference table, 13 points behind the New England Revolution for the seventh and final playoff spot.

Jans has considerable history with FCC GM Gerard Nijkamp, who will officially begin his tenure in Cincinnati on Aug. 1. Shortly after being named PEC Zwolle's technical director in 2013, Nijkamp chose Jans as his first manager. Jans led Zwolle to the KNVB Cup in his first season, and was a beaten finalist in the same competition a year later. He departed in 2017 to be FC Groningen's director of football.

Jans' managerial experience is extensive, but has been confined almost entirely to his native Holland. He started out in the Dutch amateur ranks during the 1990s with the likes of ACV and Achilles 1894.

His first head coaching job came with Groningen in 2002 where he lasted through the 2009-10 campaign. He went on to manage the likes of SC Heerenveen and Standard Liege before landing with Zwolle.
