Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho could still make Euro 2016 - France chief Le Graet

French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet has said that Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has not yet been ruled out of the reckoning for Euro 2016.

Sakho, 26, faces an uncertain future after last month being handed a provisional 30-day suspension from football for an anti-doping violation.

The centre-back was initially stood down from first-team duty at Liverpool for reportedly using a fat-burning substance.

He was subsequently suspended by UEFA pending the results of their investigation, and world football's governing body FIFA soon followed suit.

With Euro 2016 just weeks away and France coach Didier Deschamps set to name the hosts' squad for the tournament on May 12, Sakho's chances of featuring for his country this summer look bleak.

Le Graet and Deschamps have already decided that Karim Benzema will not be selected for this summer's tournament after the Real Madrid striker was charged with conspiracy to blackmail last November.

And Le Graet warned on Thursday that Sakho could face the same fate as Benzema, but noted that the Liverpool player still has time to clear his name.

"It's not yet certain," Le Graet told reporters when asked whether Sakho would miss Euro 2016. "We have to let the decision of UEFA be taken. At the moment, he can't be selected either if the punishment is confirmed.

"That said, UEFA are going to meet, I hope as quickly as possible, because Didier is naming his squad on the 12th. So we'll have to wait for UEFA's decision."
