The Premier League transfer window closes on Thursday so how have the top clubs got on so far and what could happen as the deadline approaches?

MAN CITY
Window so far: Pep Guardiola only wanted to make minor adjustments to his squad and landed top target Riyad Mahrez for considerably less money than quoted by Leicester in January. City's second priority was midfielder Jorginho, as a backup for Fernandinho, but the Italian international opted to follow Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea ,so it's been a mixed window for the club.
Biggest area of concern: City are covered for two players in every position except in the holding midfield role. However, Guardiola does have options if he doesn't bring anyone in before the window shuts. Fabian Delph, Ilkay Gundogan and youngsters Claudio Gomes and Douglas Luiz can all play there while John Stones stepped into the role in the Community Shield victory over Chelsea.
Will they be busy on deadline day? Guardiola says they are still trying to get another deal done but possible candidates Mateo Kovacic, Julian Weigl, Mario Lemina and Miralem Pjanic all look unlikely at this late stage. A number of players are likely to leave with interest in Oleksander Zinchencko, Patrick Roberts and Jason Denayer from English clubs.
Predict a move: Zinchenko could be short of opportunities at City and a move to an ambitious club such as Wolves would make sense for the Ukraine international. -- Jonathan Smith
MAN UNITED
Window so far: Jose Mourinho has spent almost £70 million to bring in Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant while recouping around £25 million from the sales of Sam Johnstone and Daley Blind. Young goalkeepers Joel Pereira and Dean Henderson have also left on loan.
Biggest area of concern: Mourinho will tell you it's centre-back but many fans are keener for United to sign a full-back or a right winger. There are already five senior centre-halves at Old Trafford but they don't have any natural width up front and both regular full-backs are 33-year-old converted wingers.
Will they be busy on deadline day? Mourinho will certainly hope so. He wants two more players before the deadline but is likely to have to settle for one. A centre-back looks most likely with Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and Jerome Boateng among the options. Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo could leave, but probably not before someone else comes in. Anthony Martial is a different problem. He wants to go and Mourinho is willing to let him but Ed Woodward is reluctant to part ways with a 22-year-old who could turn out to be a world beater.
Predict a move: A central defender to arrive but who that might be is up in the air. As it stands Boateng looks most likely because he wants to leave Bayern Munich, and they won't stand in his way as long as someone pays up. United, though, have insisted privately they will not be held to ransom. -- Rob Dawson
CHELSEA
Window so far: Jorginho is Chelsea's only high-profile acquisition. He looks a gem, although Robert Green was also signed as third-choice goalkeeper to tick a home-grown squad box. Elsewhere, the Blues have been undermined both by their own reluctance to spend big and by how long it took to replace Antonio Conte with Maurizio Sarri.
Biggest area of concern: Chelsea have issues at both ends of the pitch. Thibaut Courtois wants to join Real Madrid, but no good replacement appears to be available. Up front, Alvaro Morata has a lot of work to do to convince supporters that he is a worthy successor to Diego Costa. It is also uncertain whether Sarri has the quality he needs at full-back to implement his style.
Will they be busy on deadline day? Sarri has been open about his desire to have one more technical midfielder, so finding a player who meets his requirements will he near the top of the priority list. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who is in the final year of his contract, has been widely linked. More creativity on the wing would also be useful, though it's doubtful that Crystal Palace will part with Wilfried Zaha. The drama surrounding Courtois and Madrid may run all the way down to the wire.
Predict a move: All the signs point to Ruben Loftus-Cheek joining a mid-ranking Premier League club on loan before the deadline. Chelsea are adamant he is not for sale at any price, but Sarri seems reluctant to offer the assurance of regular first-team football that would be required for him to be happy remaining at Stamford Bridge. -- Liam Twomey
LIVERPOOL
Window so far: On paper, Liverpool appear to be the winners of the transfer market this summer. They believe they have fixed their lingering goalkeeping issues with the world-record signing of Alisson, while adding much-needed depth to the squad with the arrivals of Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Biggest area of concern: Having not signed Lyon's Nabil Fekir, you could make an argument to say Liverpool are still short of one option in the final third of the pitch and have not replaced Philippe Coutinho. However, it would appear Jurgen Klopp is satisfied with what he's got for the upcoming campaign.
Will they be busy on deadline day? Potentially yes, but only in one direction. There are a number of players who are still expected to leave Liverpool this summer. Danny Ings has a number of Premier League clubs chasing him, with Liverpool hoping to receive a fee around £20m. Divock Origi is also expected to depart. Simon Mignolet has returned from his extended break and can leave if the right offer comes in.
Predict a move: Newcastle United's Rafael Benitez doesn't receive the transfer funds he so desires, but still manages to secure a season-long loan for Ings, who is craving regular first-team action. -- Glenn Price
TOTTENHAM
Window so far: Very quiet. Spurs are yet to sign or sell any first-team players. They have it all to do now -- quite literally.
Biggest area of concern: Tottenham could sell senior figures without being able to replace them, especially in defence and midfield. Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele were all expected to depart this summer and can still move abroad after Aug.9. But Spurs are about to lose the ability to bring in adequate reinforcements and ensure the squad is not weakened.
Will they be busy on deadline day? Possibly the busiest club. Manchester United's interest in Alderweireld will have to be resolved one way or another, and if Rose wants to leave Spurs but stay in the Premier League then he will also have to go now. When it comes to recruitment, Daniel Levy has sprung last-minute surprises before and may well be plotting a move or two, while he will be keeping an eye out for bargains.
Predict a move: Tottenham are yet to meet Aston Villa's valuation of Jack Grealish but should get the deal done in the end. Spurs need to boost their homegrown contingent and have injury problems in central midfield, while Dembele could be on his way out. -- Ben Pearce
ARSENAL
Window so far: The Gunners have made five signings, mainly aimed at shoring up the defensive side of the team. Holding midfielder Lucas Torreira is the most exciting newcomer, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner will add experience and leadership to the back four. They still lack a natural winger, though, while the only players sold have been fringe members of the squad.
Biggest area of concern: The centre-back position still looks weak. Sokratis is essentially just a replacement for Laurent Koscielny, who will miss at least the first half of the season, and it's debatable whether he's a step up on the Frenchman. The Gunners needed to sign at least two central defenders to properly address that chronic weakness.
Will they be busy on deadline day? The Gunners could be quite busy, but mainly with outgoings. The club remain open to making another signing if a good opportunity arises, but trimming the squad is the main priority. Lucas Perez, David Ospina and Carl Jenkinson are among the players who are expected to be sold, while the club could also entertain offers for Danny Welbeck.
Predict a move: Lucas Perez joining West Ham looks likely. -- Mattias Karen
