This is a profile of Guillermo Ochoa, who is part of ESPN's World Fame 100. One of Mexico's storied goalkeepers, Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa has excelled under intense pressure on the World Cup stage with El Tri. As the starting goalkeeper for Club America at 18, Ochoa showcased cat-like reflexes in stopping shots that seemed impossible. In time, a number of prominent goalies lost their starting position to Ochoa, like Adolfo Ríos and then Argentine goalie Sebastian Saja. The young man with the curly hair, sure hands and the conviction to thrive took over. In 2011, Ochoa left Mexico to play in Europe, Despite club relegations and spells on the bench, Memo made his way into French Ligue 1 with Ajaccio, Spain's La Liga with Malaga and Belgium's first division with Standard Liege. His most memorable display was at the 2014 Brazil World Cup, where he finally got the chance to play on the world's biggest stage after two prior World Cup appearances on the bench. Ochoa conceded only one goal in three matches in Mexico's group stage and against Netherlands in the round of 16, Ochoa made some of his patented impossible saves. In the end, the Dutch prevailed with a penalty in stoppage time. Nevertheless, Ochoa was named man of the match.
