Borussia Dortmund 8-4 Legia Warsaw: Champions League record-breaker

Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw broke several Champions League records in Dortmund's epic 8-4 win at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday night.

"There is always something happening in Dortmund," BVB sporting director Michael Zorc told reporters after the match. "We sometimes laughed on the bench. It reminded me of funfair football. One more ride, who wants to score, who has not scored yet?"

- It was the highest-scoring game in the competition's history, surpassing Monaco's 8-3 defeat of Deportivo La Coruna in November 2003.

- Dortmund scored their first three goals within only 198 seconds and their five goals in 16 minutes was a Champions League record.

- Dortmund's eight-goal haul also equals the most scored by a team in a Champions League fixture, while a losing side have never scored four before.

- With one match left to play, Legia already hold the record for most goals involving a single team in a group. They have already reached 32, surpassing Manchester United's record of 31 goals from the 1998-99 season (though most of them have been in the 'against' column'.)

- Indeed, Legia Warsaw have already equalled Bate Borisov's 2014-15 tally of 24 goals conceded during the group stages.

- For the first time in Champions League history, eight different players scored in a single match.

- Felix Passlack replaced Lars Ricken as Dortmund's youngest scorer in the Champions League. He scored at 18 years, 177 days.

- Dortmund have now scored 19 goals in five Champions League games this season, and most of their players have been on target. BVB's 15 goal scorers this term are: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marco Reus, Shinji Kagawa, Ousmane Dembele, Raphael Guerreiro, Gonzalo Castro, Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze, Nuri Sahin, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Adrian Ramos, Marc Bartra, Julian Weigl and Felix Passlack. Legia's Jakub Rzezniczak added an own goal.

- Fourteen of Dortmund's 19 goals have come against Legia, the most by any team against a single opponent in Champions League history.

- Former Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa not only scored the fastest brace in Champions League history -- with only 76 seconds between his goals -- but he also became the first Japanese player to score a brace in the competition.

- Dortmund became only the fourth team to score five or more goals in the opening half, with Shakhtar Donetsk, AS Monaco and Bayern Munich the other teams to achieve that feat.

- Dortmund need one more goal to join Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid as the only three sides to have scored 20 goals during the group stages.

- For only the second time in Champions League history, 15 goals were scored in a group on a single matchday, with the record set on matchday one during the group stages of the 2002-03 campaign when Manchester United beat Maccabi Haifa 5-2 and Olympiakos' meeting with Bayer Leverkusen ended in a 6-2 win for the Greek outfit.
