Sutton secure third spot to leave Aldershot facing Ebbsfleet eliminator

Sutton sealed third place in the National League with a 2-1 victory over Aldershot at Gander Green Lane. After Aldershot were denied a 17th-minute opener when Jamie Collins cleared a Scott Rendell effort off the line, the home side went ahead four minutes into the second half when Tommy Wright stabbed the ball in for his 13th goal of the season.But Aldershot were level nine minutes later, Rendell tucking home from the penalty spot after Shamir Fenelon was fouled.Rendell glanced a header just wide before Sutton regained the lead 11 minutes from time, Ross Lafayette prodding home after keeper Lewis Ward spilled Tom Bolarinwa's drive.Sutton will now await their opponents in a home semi-final while Aldershot will welcome Ebbsfleet to the Recreation Ground on Wednesday in their eliminator.

Sutton slip up again as Maidenhead claim scalp of promotion hopefuls

Sutton's automatic play-off semi-final hopes suffered a blow as their winless run was stretched to five games with a 2-1 defeat at Maidenhead.The hosts went ahead after 24 minutes when Harry Pritchard collected the ball 25 yards out and rifled a shot into the top corner of the net.And just eight minutes later they doubled their advantage when a deep corner found its way to Jake Goodman and he planted a header home from six yards.Adrian Clifton had a goal ruled out for offside before the Magpies were awarded a penalty in the 76th minute when Terell Thomas brought down Sean Marks, but Jamie Butler saved Pritchard's effort.Clifton then saw an effort come back off the crossbar with Butler beaten 10 minutes from time.Sutton got back into the game with three minutes remaining when Craig Eastmond lashed home from 25 yards and Ross Stearn almost snatched an equaliser but saw his effort hit the post.

Halifax defeat ends Sutton's automatic promotion hopes

Sutton's fading hopes of automatic promotion to the Football League were extinguished by a 2-1 defeat at Halifax.The visitors missed a great early chance when Tommy Wright hit the crossbar from three yards out.Halifax made them pay when Jake Hibbs released the onrushing Mike Fondop-Talom, who rounded Jamie Butler to score.Substitute Ross Lafayette thought he had secured a point for Sutton when he headed home a corner by another replacement, Harry Beautyman.But the hosts surged up the other end, and after Jamie Butler had done well to tip Scott McManus's effort against the bar, Ben Tomlinson reacted to nod in and claim Halifax's victory.

Woods at the double as Hartlepool see off Maidstone

Hartlepool boosted their survival hopes as a 2-1 victory at Maidstone stretched their unbeaten run to five games. Manager Matthew Bates named an unchanged side from the one which earned a 2-1 victory against Bromley and it paid off, Michael Woods opening the scoring by capitalising on a parry from goalkeeper Lee Worgan in the 25th minute. Maidstone responded well, visiting keeper Scott Loach having to work hard to palm a strong Stuart Lewis drive over the bar.But it was Hartlepool who doubled their lead in the 89th minute, Woods notching his second by calmly finishing into the bottom corner. A Ross Lafayette goal for Maidstone made the final moments tense, but Pools held on to take another step towards safety.

Sutton jump to the top with Chester doomed

Sutton moved top of the National League following a 3-2 home victory over relegation-threatened Chester.Harry Beautyman gave the U's the lead in the 13th minute when he smartly turned his marker and fired into the corner.Sutton had a goal disallowed 15 minutes later when Byron Harrison's header was ruled out for offside but the forward made up for it just before half-time with a tap-in from a corner.Chester pulled one back on the hour after James Akintunde won a foul and then got on the end of the resulting free-kick. However, Ross Stearn's 25-yard shot into the top corner regained Sutton's two-goal cushion 11 minutes from time.Chester, though, set up a tense finale when Harry White converted a penalty in the 87th minute after Akintunde was upended but Sutton held on to leapfrog Macclesfield on goal difference.

Maidstone moved further away from the relegation zone with a narrow 1-0 National League victory over high-flying Sutton.Stuart Lewis' strike deep into the second half - after an uneventful opening 45 minutes at the Gallagher Stadium - proved enough for maximum points.The former Wycombe midfielder raced onto a through ball and guided it beyond Sutton goalkeeper Jamie Butler into the corner of the net after 75 minutes.The three points moves the hosts up two spots to 16th, while the Yellows remain two points behind leaders Macclesfield, who lost at Dover.

Sutton United claimed their third straight win to reduce the gap to National League leaders Macclesfield to two points with a 2-0 victory over Woking at Borough Sports Ground.On-loan Barrow striker Byron Harrison handed the home side the lead after 33 minutes as he bundled the ball over the line for his third goal in three games from his side's second corner of the night. Midfielder Tom Bolarinwa doubled the Yellows' score nine minutes after the break as he turned home Harry Beautyman's cross for his fourth goal of the season.Bolarinwa came close to completing his brace with 25 minutes remaining, but his long-range effort was kept out as Sutton extended their unbeaten league run to nine games.

Tommy Wright's 11th goal of the season stole Sutton a 1-1 National League draw at Barrow.Bedsente Gomis had hosts Barrow in front thanks to his first goal in 15 league games, the French forward finding the net for the first time since a 3-2 loss at Ebbsfleet on October 21.But just when the hosts started eyeing victory, up popped Wright with Sutton's equaliser, some 15 minutes from time.The point keeps Barrow two points off the relegation zone, while Sutton sit fourth in the table.
