Montrose draw with struggling Cowdenbeath while Peterhead hit seven past Elgin

Montrose's lead at the top of Ladbrokes League Two has been cut to one point following their 1-1 draw with basement side Cowdenbeath. Gary Fraser opened the scoring for the leaders in the 68th minute before Robbie Buchanan equalised 10 minutes from time.Peterhead improved their goal difference with a 7-0 win at home to Elgin to keep the pressure on Montrose.Rory McAllister made it 10 goals in his last nine games with the opener in the 27th minute before Jordon Brown doubled the home side's advantage nine minutes after half-time.Further goals from Nick Riley, Jamie Stevenson (2), Mason Robertson and Russell McLean wrapped up the scoring for the Blue Toon.Edinburgh City beat Berwick 3-0 thanks to Ashley Grimes' opener and two from Scott Shepherd. Two goals at the start of the second half from Jimmy Scott and Ross Meechan enabled Stenhousemuir to open up a five-point gap on Stirling, who scored a late consolation in the 2-1 defeat through Darren Smith. Annan had Jack Brannan sent off in the seventh minute at Clyde but managed to secure a point following a 0-0 draw. Clyde had Kevin Nicoll sent off four minutes from time.

Kilmarnock 4-2 Clyde

Dom Thomas's double got Kilmarnock out of trouble as they kick-started their Betfred Cup campaign with a 4-2 win over Clyde.Killie were looking to bounce back from losing their Group E opener to local rivals Ayr but appeared in all sorts of trouble at Rugby Park when the Bully Wee responded to Rory McKenzie early strike with quick-fire goals from Darren Ramsay and Kevin Nicoll.But the League Two upstarts were denied a shock win when Thomas netted twice after the break.McKenzie then completed his own brace as Killie kept their quarter-final hopes alive while Clyde finished a man light after defender Jordan Stewart was sent off.The hosts thought they had got off to the perfect start when they struck just seven minutes in as McKenzie finished off a clever corner routine.But two minutes of madness put Kilmarnock in trouble.The first set-back came just three minutes after the opener when Kirk Broadfoot's slip-up left his team exposed, with Ramsay taking full advantage to lash home the equaliser.Clyde found themselves ahead 60 seconds later when Darren Miller's brilliant free-kick was headed home by the unmarked Nicoll.Home boss Lee McCulloch responded by sending on Chris Burke - signed just two hours before kick-off - for the start of the second period.But it was their summer signing from Motherwell who turned the gameFirst Thomas equalised with a clever drag back and finish after 53 minutes.And he put his team in front just before the hour mark when his long-range daisy-cutter skipped past goalkeeper Blair Currie into the bottom left corner.McKenzie added number four in the 68th minute when a loose ball broke to him in the box.Clyde's hopes evaporated completely moments later as Stewart received a straight red for lunging in on Adam Frizzell.ends

Bottom-club Cowdenbeath boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from Ladbrokes League Two with a 2-0 win against Clyde.Clyde striker Peter MacDonald had his 11th-minute penalty saved by Jamie Sneddon before Kyle Miller gave the visitors the lead two minutes before the break.And six minutes into the second half David Syme headed in his first goal for the club.Cowdenbeath's second win in four games moved them to within four points of their ninth-placed opponents, who slipped below Edinburgh City on goal difference.

Berwick edge seven-goal thriller with Clyde

Berwick moved further away from danger in Ladbrokes Scottish League Two with a thrilling 4-3 home victory over Clyde.Rangers, who had picked up seven points from three games prior to their weekend defeat to Elgin, led 2-0 after 30 minutes thanks to Gary Phillips' far-post volley and a neat finish from Greg Rutherford.However, third-bottom Clyde levelled with two goals in quick succession, Chris Smith smashing home in the 32nd minute before Pat Scullion turned into his own net soon after.That gave Clyde hope of recording only a second win in 16 matches in all competitions, but they were trailing again by the 37th minute as Steven Thomson fired into the top corner for his 11th league goal of the season.Rutherford's second of the night with 19 minutes to go made it 4-2, and although Clyde pulled a late goal back through David Gormley's header, Berwick held on to move four points above their opponents.

Edinburgh City come from behind to leave Cowdenbeath cut adrift in League Two

Edinburgh City eased their relegation worries after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Ladbrokes Scottish League Two basement side Cowdenbeath.The Citizens went into the crucial clash only four points above their hosts but they left Central Park with renewed optimism in their bid for survival. It looked as though it was going to be another night to forget for the League Two newcomers after Dale Carrick gave Cowdenbeath a 12th-minute lead.But Dougie Gair equalised five minutes later and Josh Walker completed the comeback in the 64th minute.It was a first victory in eight games for Edinburgh City and left Cowdenbeath, who had Fraser Mullen sent off in the second half, seven points adrift at the bottom.Clyde slipped down a place to ninth after a 2-1 home defeat by Montrose.First-half goals from Kerr Hay and Greg Pascazio left Montrose in control and they held on despite Peter MacDonald pulling one back on 74 minutes.In Tuesday's other game, Sean Dickson scored deep into stoppage time to give Stirling a 1-0 win over third-placed Elgin.

Clyde 1-2 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock's debutants impressed at Broadwood as they saw off the challenge of Clyde in 2-1 win in the Betfred Cup.Soulaymane Coulibaly and William Boyle sealed the win for the away side, but they had goalkeeper Jamie McDonald to thank for saving a penalty with the score 0-0.Subsitute Jamie Watson volleyed home a late goal for Clyde but it was not enough as they slipped to defeat.The victory continues the re-building job for Lee Clarke's side, who earlier this month added 11 players on the same day.Clyde themselves have recruited heavily so far in this window, and handed starts to seven summer signings.And it was the home side who had the better of the opening exchanges. Striker Sean Higgins should have put the Bully Wee in front after 20 minutes, but flashed his effort just wide.For all of the home side's attacking threat, they looked exposed defensively with Kilmarnock guilty of wasting a number of first-half chances.The away side looked particularly threatening from set-pieces. Coulibaly - the summer signing from Peterborough - had efforts on goal but failed to capitalise on slack marking in the Clyde ranks.Clyde again got out of the traps quickest in the second half and were rewarded for their endeavour with a chance from the penalty spot.Away defender Boyle, making his first competitive start since joining from Huddersfield on loan, was the culprit, handballing Dylan Easton's shot.But McDonald spared the Englishman's blushes, saving from Scott Linton's tame effort.And Clyde were made to pay as the impressive Coulibaly back-heeled from five yards out to put Kilmarnock in front.Boyle atoned for his earlier error by doubling the away side's lead with 14 minutes to go, rising highest from a corner to head home at the back post.Watson gave the home side a lifeline with minutes remaining, impressively volleying home from a free-kick, but it was not enough as Kilmarnock held on.ends

Queen's Park secure promotion to League One after aggregate success over Clyde

Queen's Park have been promoted to Scottish League One after they clung on to beat 10-man Clyde 3-2 on aggregate despite a 1-0 defeat in the final second leg at Hampden Park.Barry Ferguson's Clyde were attempting to overcome a two-goal deficit and took the lead in the 33rd minute when Ryan McGeever's handball allowed Scott Linton to score from the spot.The visitors' chances of a second goal to force extra-time were dealt a blow when Michael Bolochoweckyj was shown a second yellow card for a foul on David Galt in the 74th minute.The 10 men still had their chances and only a superb save from William Muir kept out David Gormley with 13 minutes left.But the Spiders held on to secure their place in the third tier next season.

Bob McHugh earns Falkirk draw at Hibernian in play-off semi-final first leg

Hibernian and Falkirk will play a winner-takes-all Ladbrokes Premiership play-off semi-final second leg after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Easter Road.Bairns striker Lee Miller gave the visitors a 33rd-minute lead when he inadvertently diverted in a Tom Taiwo drive.Alan Stubbs' side came storming out in the second half and levelled in the 57th minute though midfielder Liam Henderson before defender Darren McGregor, who had scored the crucial goal in the 2-1 aggregate win in the quarter-final against Raith, put the Leith side ahead with another thumping header.But Peter Houston's men refused to buckle and in the 79th minute substitute Bob McHugh, on for Miller, equalised with a shot which squirmed under Hibs goalkeeper Conrad Logan to set up a potentially thrilling game at the Falkirk Stadium.There was nothing cagey about the early stages of the game, although neither side could take control.In the 14th minute there was applause around the stadium in tribute to former Falkirk player Chris Mitchell, who died last Friday aged 27.Falkirk's goal came after Miller had been fouled by McGregor 25 yards from goal.Leahy's free-kick struck Hibs' defensive wall and spun to Taiwo and his drive from the edge of the box was redirected by the foot of Miller, with the home side erroneously claiming offside.Midfielder John McGinn went close with a drive at the start of the second half and moments later Anthony Stokes missed a great chance after being put through by Jason Cummings, the on-loan striker ballooning his shot over the bar with only Falkirk goalkeeper Danny Rogers to beat.There was little surprise when the home side drew level, Stokes heading into the path of his fellow Celtic loanee Henderson, who fired into the net from 12 yards.The momentum was with the hosts, and they took the lead when McGregor rose inside a packed six-yard box to bullet in a Henderson cross with his head.Hibs were well on top and there was a claim for a penalty when the prostrate Bairns skipper David McCracken appeared to put his hand on the ball after he and Rogers combined to thwart McGinn, but referee Alan Muir was not interested.There was more drama in the 79th minute when McHugh spun inside the box and drove at goal, with Logan making a mess of his attempted save and the ball trickling over the line - much to the dismay of the Hibs fans and the joy of those in dark blue.

Goals from Jordan Kirkpatrick and Scott Linton confirmed Clyde's place in the Scottish League One play-off final as a 2-0 win at Elgin secured a 5-1 aggregate success.Kirkpatrick's fifth goal of the campaign in all competitions came in stunning fashion as he curled a 30-yard free-kick beyond Mark Hurst after David Gormley was fouled by Jamie Duff.Linton rounded off the game in stoppage time with his 11th goal of the campaign, scoring against a depleted Elgin who were reduced to 10 men when Kyle MacLeod was stretchered off after his side had made three substitutions.Barry Ferguson's Clyde will go on to play Queen's Park in the final while Elgin face another season in League Two.

Clyde shrug off Barry Ferguson absence to claim first-leg win over Elgin

Clyde took a 3-1 lead in the first leg of their Ladbrokes League One play-off semi-final with Elgin despite manager Barry Ferguson's absence.The former Scotland midfielder was in Switzerland to collect his UEFA Pro License following his successful completion of the course.Yet Ferguson played an important role in the win, having delayed naming his team to give Mark McLaughlin and John Gemmell a chance of being fit.Both scored, along with Scott Linton, for the Broadwood hosts with Kyle MacLeod grabbing a goal for the visitors, who have it all to do in Saturday's second leg.Clyde's Jordan Kirkpatrick twice shot wide of the target in the early stages before Gemmell, who like McLaughlin had limped off against Stirling in the previous game, gave the hosts a 19th-minute lead with a close-range finish.The Bully Wee continued to dominate, Gemmell unleashing another shot before Scott McLaughlin went close with a shot and Chris Smith had a header saved.With half-time approaching Linton doubled the lead, finding the top-right corner from a central position after David Gormley's pass.Dylan Easton had Elgin's first meaningful shot on goal and soon after the break MacLeod headed a goal for the visitors. The Black and Whites kept up the pressure with shots from Easton and MacLeod.Gormley forced Mark Hurst into a save to shift the momentum and, soon after, Mark McLaughlin nodded in from close range to restore a two-goal lead.Elgin responded with Connor McLaren's effort that missed on the right and Mark Nicolson's shot going over the bar, but Jim Weir's side could not pull another goal back.
