Chelsea Ladies' Eni Aluko to leave club this summer

Eni Aluko said she will leave Chelsea Ladies "with a heavy heart" this summer.

The striker helped Chelsea win the Women's FA Cup and the Women's Super League title, which they claimed with a 2-0 victory at Bristol City Women, this season.

But Aluko, who joined Chelsea from Birmingham City in December 2012, has not been a consistent starter for Emma Hayes' team recently and will now move on.

"After five years and more than 150 appearances, it's with a heavy heart I confirm I'll be leaving Chelsea," Aluko wrote on Twitter. "I couldn't dream of a better ending. To my teammates who I adore, the club and fans, thank you."

Aluko's decision to leave Chelsea follows the retirement announcement last week from captain Katie Chapman, with both possibly set for their last appearances in the final game of the season against Liverpool on Sunday.

Aluko has won 102 caps for England, scoring 33 goals, but has not played for the national team since April 2016 following a dispute with the FA over the behaviour of former coach Mark Sampson.

Her limited action with Chelsea has affected her chances of an international recall, with Aluko scoring six times in 17 domestic league and cup appearances this season.
