Samuel Eto'o leaves Konyaspor after half-a-season

Veteran Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o has had his contract with Konyaspor terminated by mutual consent.

The 37-year-old former Indomitable Lions captain had only joined the Turkish side in January on a two-and-a-half-year contract, and scored six goals in just 14 appearances to help the club survive relegation.

But amid rumours of a possible return to Spain or France, Eto'o has had his stay cut short "on the basis of a previously agreed negotiation".

"We thank Samuel Eto'o for his contributions to the club and his services on behalf of our colours, and we hope that he will bring beauty, happiness and success to his future plans after a farewell to each other in warm and sincere feelings," a statement on Konyaspor's website read.

Eto'o is a three-time UEFA Champions League winner, two-time African Cup of Nations champion, and four-time African Player of the Year.
