Bosnia and Herzegovina hire Robert Prosinecki as new head coach

Bosnia and Herzegovina have appointed Robert Prosinecki as their new coach.

The former Croatia midfielder, who played at Real Madrid and Barcelona and also won the European Cup with Red Star Belgrade, replaces Mehmed Bazdarevic, who left his post after failing to lead the team to the 2018 World Cup.

Bosnia and Herzegovina announced the appointment in a statement on their official website, with the organisation's first vice-president Sofrenic Milorad saying he was "the best solution" with a "long-standing experience in leading teams."

The 48-year-old was most recently in charge of the Azerbaijan national team from 2014 to 2017.

His first games in charge will be a pair of friendlies in the United States in January, first against the U.S. on Jan. 28 in California, and then against Mexico in Texas three days later.

Prosinecki also became a firm fans' favourite during his time playing at Portsmouth. He joined the second-tier side aged 32 in 2001 and scored nine goals in 33 league games to help keep the club up.
