          TOP STORY: Pep eyes Alves reunion at City

          Pep Guardiola is considering bringing former Barcelona star Dani Alves to Manchester City this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

          Guardiola signed Alves from Sevilla in 2008, and over the course of four seasons they won 14 trophies together at the Camp Nou including two Champions Leagues and three Spanish league titles.

          Veteran right-back Alves is a free agent, having ended his two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain. The 36-year-old made 36 appearances last season, including all six of Brazil's games in their run to Copa America glory on home soil this summer.

          The Mail reports that Guardiola is considering signing Alves if the defender's fellow Brazilian, Danilo, leaves the club this summer. The 27-year-old Danilo has been linked with interest from Inter Milan and Juventus, another of Alves' former clubs.

          Alves considered joining City in 2017, before opting to join PSG. However, he said in an interview later that year: "I don't hide my admiration for Pep and my will to play in the Premier League in the future."

          23.19 BST: Man United are making progress on a transfer target according to reports in Portugal.

          Newspaper Correio da Manha reports that United are advancing in talks for Benfica and Portugal defender Ruben Dias. Record had previously noted that United had scouts at Benfica's first preseason friendly to watch the 22-year-old centre-back.

          The report goes on to say that Man United talked have asked Benfica about signing Dias for lower than his €66 million release clause but that the Portuguese side refuse to budge on that price tag. Keep an eye on Man United and Dias as if the Red Devils don't get Harry Maguire, Dias could be a very good "Plan B" for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co.

          22.53 BST: Leicester City defender set for loan abroad?

          Turkish outlet Fotosport, via Leicestershire Live, claims that Besiktas are interested in adding Foxes centre-back Caglar Soyuncu on loan next season. The 23-year-old Turk was signed for £19 million last season for Freiburg but made only eight appearances.

          With Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans still ahead of him in the pecking order at the king Power, Soyuncu's future could depend on whether Leicester sell or hold on to the in-demand Maguire.

          22.25 BST: Inter Milan have made a big signing late on Friday evening, as the club have announced they have signed highly-rated Italian midfielder Nico Barella from Cagliari.

          The Cagliari-born Barella came through Cagliari's academy and joins Inter -- on a one-year loan with an obligation to buy for a reported €50 million -- after a 13-year association with the Sardinian club. A complete midfielder, Barella led Serie A in recoveries and duels won last season and joins Inter after interest from Juventus and Chelsea

          The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the San Siro and has been lauded as the next big thing for Italy by Andrea Pirlo and compared to former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

          21.57 BST: Fabian Delph.

          The 29-year-old is expected to have a medical on Saturday ahead of finalising terms on a three-year contract with the Toffees. Delph has been a valuable player under Pep Guardiola the last couple of seasons, playing a lot of left-back last season at City due to injuries to Benjamin Mendy.

          21.24 BST: Juventus have signed a talented young defender for a substantial fee. No, not Matthijs de Ligt but rather Cristian Romero.

          Juve have paid Genoa €26 million for Romero, who will go back to Genoa on loan next season. The 21-year-old Argentine will sign a five-year contract with the Old Lady, after impressing during his debut season in Europe with Genoa.

          Juve don't appear to be done either, as reports indicate they are close to sealing a deal for the much-coveted De Ligt from Ajax in the coming days.

          20.53 BST: The Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich talk has died down a bit but could a new club emerge as a contender to acquire the German?

          Sport writes that PSG are considering a move for Sane as a potential replacement for Neymar -- if the Brazilian leaves Paris this summer. Pep Guardiola and Man City are hoping to sign the 23-year-old to a new contract extension but if nothing comes to fruition, City could elect to cash in on the winger and sell him to one of Europe's elite.

          Any potential move to PSG for Sane hinges on Neymar, so we will wait and see what happens with that domino first.

          20.12 BST: Bournemouth have completed one of their most important tasks of the summer in signing star striker Callum Wilson to a contract extension.

          The England man scored racked up 15 goals and 10 assists last season for the Cherries and now is under contract with the club through 2023. Wilson, was linked heavily with a move to Chelsea in January but decided to stay home where he has reignited his career after a multiple major knee injuries.

          "I feel like as an individual, my game is constantly improving here at the club. I want to continue that progress and reach even higher targets. I'm really excited about what the future holds."

          Now that Wilson has committed his long-term future to the club, Bournemouth's attention will turn to winger Ryan Fraser who is being pursued by Arsenal.

          19.31 BST: Sevilla have made their ninth signing of the summer under new boss Julen Lopetegui and it is a familiar face.

          Former Man City defensive midfielder Fernando is the latest man to arrive in Seville, signing a three-year contract. Nearly 32, Fernando joins Sevilla after two seasons at Galatasaray, after previously playing three seasons at the Etihad from 2014-17.

          19.08 BST: Norwich have announced they have signed star midfielder Mario Vrancic to a contract extension.

          The 30-year-old has signed a two-year extension through 2021 with the Canaries, after tallying 10 goals and eight assists last season.

          18.29 BST: Scottish side St. Mirren have signed a player by a familiar name: Djorkaeff

          The club have announced they have signed midfielder Oan Djorkaeff, son of France 1998 World Cup winner Youri.

          The younger Djorkaeff, 22, joins on a one-year deal after previous spells at Saint-Etienne, Evian, Montpellier and Nantes.

          18.02 BST: Wolves are reportedly lining up an offer for £35 million-rated Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

          L'Equipe, via Get French Football News, suggests that Wolves have made contact with Monaco about a loan with an option to buy offer for the 18-year-old centre-back.

          The six-foot-four Badiashile made 26 first-team appearances for Monaco last season and is also reportedly being tracked by Manchester United and Valencia.

          17.37 BST: Everton have reportedly set their asking price for Ademola Lookman, as RB Leipzig reignite their interest in the winger.

          The Liverpool Echo claims that Everton are willing to sell Lookman if they receive an offer in the neighborhood of £25 million for the player. The 21-year-old has started just 14 games since arriving at Goodison Park from Charlton in Jan. 2017, but enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Leipzig, scoring five goals in 11 games at the end of the 2017-18 season.

          RB Leipzig failed with multiple attempts to sign the winger last summer but apparently have not lost interest in acquiring Lookman's services.

          17.11 BST: Newly-promoted Sheffield United have made their third signing of the summer in Republic of Ireland international Callum Robinson.

          The Blades have paid an undisclosed fee to prise the 24-year-old forward from Championship side Preston North End. Robinson becomes Sheffield's record signing, moving to S2 after 13 goals last season with Preston.

          16.41 BST: And another one of the biggest dominoes has fallen.

          Barcelona have announced that they have signed Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid for €120 million. The announcement ends a drawn out saga full of controversy between all three parties and means Barcelona now can boast a frontline of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Griezmann.

          Griezmann will sign a five-year contract at the Camp Nou through 2024 and will have an enormous €800m release clause.

          In five seasons with Los Rojiblancos, the 28-year-old World Cup winner scored 123 goals in 257 games and won the Europa League and finished as a Champions League runner-up twice.

          16.05 BST: United States striker Haji Wright has joined Dutch side VVV Venlo from FC Schalke, the club has announced.

          The 21-year-old American, who had just one year left on his contract with the German side, made seven Bundesliga appearances last season, finding the net only once.

          15.31 BST: Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Serbia under-21 striker Ivan Saponjic from Benfica, the club have announced.

          Saponjic scored one goal in seven games at this year's Euro under-21 Championship, and scored six goals in 27 league game last season.

          14.59 BST: Spurs have launched a late bid for Arsenal-bound defender William Saliba, according to RMC Sport.

          The AS Saint-Etiene defender is subject to an improved offer of £27m from Spurs in a bid to hijack their rivals and bring him to White Hart Lane.

          Spurs look set to continue a summer of spending, having already signed Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and Leeds striker Jack Clarke.

          14.32 BST: Newly-promoted Aston Villa are set to continue their summer window spending spree as they close in on a deal for Manchester City youngster Douglas Luiz,

          The 21-year-old Brazilian is set to move to Villa Park in a deal worth £15m, taking Villa's spending past the £100m mark for the window.

          Villa have already bought defenders Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa this window, as well as a host of other signings.

          13.45 BST: Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella is having a medical at Inter Milan on Friday ahead of move from Cagliari, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

          The highly-rated 22-year-old was wanted by Chelsea and Juventus in January, but Antonio Conte's Inter Milan edge closer to completing the signing.

          The deal is believed to be a one-year loan move for €12m, with an obligation to buy for €25m, plus €12m in add-ons, thus taking the overall fee to €45m.

          13.06 BST: West Ham have made an approach to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller, Sky Sports have reported.

          The German side are demanding £40m for the French forward, who scored 15 goals in 29 league appearances last season.

          The Hammers, who are looking for a new striker since the departure of Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG, recently made a failed attempt to sign Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.

          12.27 BST: Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti would prefer to sign PSV winger Hirving "Chucky" Lozano over Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi, say reports in Italy.

          "Icardi will always want to go to Juventus, I do not deny that I have sought him out, he can not ignore his talent," Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis said in an interview with Corriere dello Sport. "It's great, but Carlo told me he would prefer Lozano, we already have [Dries] Mertens and [Arkadiusz] Milik at the front and he would complement our attack."

          12.01 BST: Lyon have signed Danish centre-back Joachim Andersen from Serie A side Sampdoria.

          The 23-year-old defender is a towering 6-foot-4-inches and made 32 league appearances last season.

          11.35 BST: Inter Milan have made an official bid for Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has said.

          "It was an official approach between two important clubs. We'll see what happens," Ausilio told Sky Sports. "All the players we're following are targets we've agreed with Antonio Conte. We want to satisfy his request within certain financial parameters."

          The Belgium international wants to leave, sources told ESPN on Thursday. The Red Devils are said to only be interested in cash-only bids and value the striker at £75m.

          11.02 BST: Borussia Dortmund outcast Jeremy Toljan, 24, has completed his loan move to Serie A side Sassuolo.

          The defender, who spent the first half of 2019 at Celtic, joins on a one-year loan with a view to a permanent transfer, according to reports in Germany.

          Meanwhile, attacker Maximilian Philipp, 25, is nearing his transfer to Wolfsburg following a difficult spell at Dortmund.

          Borussia are holding out for a fee in the region of €18m, Bild reckons.

          10.38 BST: Napoli striker Dries Mertens has been seen arguing with his wife, Katrin Kerkhofs, on a beach as she wants to return to Belgium to pursue a career in showbiz, according to Corriere dello Sport.

          The 32-year-old forward reportedly wants to stay in Naples, but his wife would like to return to Belgium to pursue her budding entertainment career.

          Kerkhofs finished second on Belgium's Dancing with the Stars in 2018, going on to present the show the following series.

          10.25 BST: Manchester United Women have completed the signing of goalkeeper Mary Earps from German side VfL Wolfsburg, the club announced in a statement.

          "Something special is happening at the club and I'm excited to become a part of that," Earps said. "I feel like this is the perfect place for me to reach the next level in my career."

          The 26-year-old England international recently returned from the Women's World Cup in France. She has had spells at several Women's Super League sides in recent years, including Reading, Bristol and Birmingham.

          09.51 BST: Manchester United may be forced to end their pursuit of Sean Longstaff after Newcastle slapped a £50m price tag on the midfielder, sources have told ESPN FC.

          United value the 21-year-old, who has made just nine Premier League appearances, at between £18m to £20m but Newcastle are asking for more than double.

          Sources have told ESPN FC that chief negotiator Matt Judge, head of corporate development, spoke to Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley over the weekend but a formal bid was not submitted because the two clubs are so far apart.

          Newcastle, according to sources, are using the £50m paid to Crystal Palace for Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a barometer for their valuation, a stance that has stunned United chiefs considering Longstaff's lack of experience.

          09.26 BST: Kashima Antlers have agreed a deal to sell forward Hiroki Abe to Barcelona, the Japanese club have announced.

          The deal, reported to be worth around €2m, is subject to the 20-year-old, who made his international debut for Japan in the Copa America last month, agreeing personal terms and passing a medical in Spain.

          It has been reported in Japan that the contract will last for three years with the possibility of a two-year extension. Abe, a versatile attacker who can play on the left, right or in a central role behind the main striker, is expected to start his European career in Barcelona's 'B' team.

          It has been a busy transfer window for Japanese talent heading to Europe. Abe's move to Barcelona comes almost a month after the Catalan side missed out on Japanese teen Takefusa Kubo. The former Barca youth player was snapped up by Real Madrid upon reaching his 18th birthday. Earlier in July, Japan international winger Shoya Nakajima joined FC Porto on a five-year deal.

          09.00 BST: The father and agent of Valencia striker Rodrigo has not ruled out his son joining Napoli but says that a deal can only be reached if the two clubs are in agreement. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed on Thursday his club was keen to sign Rodrigo but that the player does not want to leave Spain.

          Asked about De Laurentiis' comments, Adelberto Machado told Calciomercato: "De Laurentiis comments? Any big club like the Azzurro would be a good destination for Rodrigo, who is tied to Valencia. The clubs have to reach an agreement and for the time being, there are no developments. I will only comment once a deal is completed."

          Rodrigo has a contract with Valencia that runs until June 2022 and has a €120m release clause. The Spain international scored eight goals and set up six more in 33 league appearances to help Valencia finish fourth in La Liga last season.

          Napoli are looking to strengthen their attack and are in negotiations with Real Madrid to sign Colombia winger James Rodriguez.

          08.32 BST: Arturo Vidal says his future is at Barcelona amid reports that Inter Milan have rekindled their interest in signing the Chile international.

          The Barcelona midfielder is on holiday in his country after competing with Chile at the Copa America. Vidal, 32, was a target of Inter last summer before Barcelona acquired him from Bayern Munich by paying in the region of €20m.

          Speaking to the local media, Vidal said as reported in El Grafico: "Right now I'm only thinking about my holidays but my future is with Barcelona, I have two years left on my contract with the club."

          Vidal scored three goals and set up seven more in 33 league appearances for the Spanish champions last season, 11 as a starter.

          08.00 BST: Argentina international Nicolas Tagliafico has committed to stay at Ajax having been rewarded for his contribution to their excellent Champions League run last season, a source close to player has told ESPN FC.

          Left-back Tagliafico, 26, scored three times in the 2018/19 UCL group stages, then helped Ajax stun Madrid and Juventus before they were edged out in the semifinals by Tottenham, leading to confirmed interest from clubs including Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.

          However, a source has now told ESPN FC that Tagliafico will not be looking to move on this summer, having been rewarded with a new contract by Ajax, and being happy that other key players like Dusan Tadic have decided to stay as well.

          PAPER TALK (by Richard Edwards): Roma emerge as Alderweireld suitor

          With just a year remaining on his contract and a €25m buyout clause, Toby Alderweireld has been an intriguing protagonist in this transfer window. The Tottenham centre-back has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Juventus in recent months, yet he remains in North London.

          Calciomercato, however, reports that there is a new suitor: Roma. The Italian outlet writes that the Giallorossi have already met with the agent of the Belgium international, offering his client an annual salary of €3.5m plus bonuses.

          There could be a complication, however. Despite Alderweireld having that relatively affordable €25m release clause, Roma seek to negotiate that number down to something closer to €17m -- at the age of 30, Alderweireld will soon have little resale value, making any funds saved on his fee vital.

          PSG eyeing sizeable bid for Everton's Gueye

          Paris Saint-Germain look set to test Everton's determination to keep hold of Idrissa Gueye, with the French champions ready to table a bid of £27 million for the player.

          That's according to L'Equipe, with the French publication adamant that PSG won't give up in their interest in a player they first started chasing back in the winter transfer window.

          The Senegalese player is reportedly keen on a move to Paris and PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has made no secret of his desire to make the strengthening of the club's midfield an immediate priority as they target progress in the Champions League, on top of fresh domestic silverware next season.

          The player is currently under contract at Goodison Park until 2022 and Everton have made it clear that they're under no particular pressure to sell him. Gueye, meanwhile, might have other ideas, particularly given his performances in the African Nations Cup, with Senegal already safely in the last four.

          Mariano adamant on staying at Madrid

          Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz wants to remain at the Bernabeu despite interest from teams all across Europe, according to AS.

          He's already been connected to Italian teams, with Inter Milan and Roma inquiring about him during the summer window. Tottenham Hotspur also were unsuccessful in convincing Mariano to jump ship.

          Nonetheless, the Dominican-born Spain international is focused on remaining on Zinedine Zidane's good side and fighting for a more prominent role this season.

          - Bournemouth are prepared to let Ryan Fraser go on a free transfer next summer than sell him this season, according to the Express. The Cherries see him as an important part of the upcoming campaign and rather keep him for the fight. Arsenal have their eyes on the Scotland international, who is on his final year of his current deal.

          - As Bayern Munich grow frustrated over the lack of progress made in their chase for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane, they've turned their attention to PSV starlet Steven Bergwijn, according to the Express, which adds that the player's agent has said that "[Bayern] can take all the time they need" to tie up a deal for the 21-year-old Netherlands international.
