Barnsley keeper Nick Townsend's bizarre injury after fighting teammate

With a tense derby against Sheffield United on the cards this weekend, Barnsley have confirmed that they'll be heading into the match without their goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, Nick Townsend suffered a broken finger during a training session earlier in the week -- although it sounds as though the injury was entirely preventable.

As confirmed by Tykes head coach Jose Morais, Townsend fractured his digit after getting embroiled in a fist fight with a teammate, namely defender Dimitri Cavare.

"It was a duel between two players that resulted in him breaking his finger," Morais told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I'm not frustrated. If I could give a pair of gloves to both of them and say 'start to fight', they have a fair fight, and it would result in a better shape for the team and a better atmosphere."

Townsend had started eight of Barnsley's previous 10 matches before surrendering his place to the more senior Adam Davies.

Now the former is expected to be ruled out until the end of the season as his side continue to battle against impending relegation from the Championship.
