The wrong type of impact -- Berwick's mysterious 'trialist' is sent off

As first impressions go, this one left something to be desired:

Among the names of the subs on Berwick Rangers' team sheet for the Scottish League Two clash with Forfar was "trialist," an unnamed player presumably trying to win a contract at Shielfield Park.

The game duly began and, for 72 minutes, appears to have been an end-to-end encounter, given that it was 2-2 when our hero entered proceedings.

However, what went before was nothing compared to the drama that followed. First, Gary Phillips scored in the 89th minute to give Berwick a 3-2 lead and then, deep into stoppage time, the mystery man's day took a turn for the worse.

Berwick held on to win the game and, no doubt, there was much celebration at the final whistle. But that's the not the real story of the day, is it?

Good luck to you, "trialist." We know not whether you have a future in the fourth tier of Scottish football. Or, indeed, if you even have a name at all.

What, for example, did the referee write in his notebook after he brandished the red card?
