With the club celebrating its 50th birthday this week, several thousand suitably enthusiastic Union Berlin fans congregated inside the stadium on Tuesday night to ring in the special day in style.
As soon as the clock struck midnight, the flares were lit in unison. What then followed was a stunning display of pyrotechnics, fireworks and chanting as the entire surrounding area was soon swathed in Union red.
A small team from the working class suburbs of Berlin, Union are one of German football's favourite cult clubs.
On this evidence, it's not hard to see why.
