Perak, Felda United overturn deficits to book Malaysia Cup semifinals

Brazilian striker Gilmar scored the first two goals as Perak overturned a 3-1 first-leg deficit to win 5-3 on aggregate against 2014 champions Pahang in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Malaysia Cup in Ipoh on Sunday night.

Gilmar, a former Kelantan and Sarawak forward, netted in the third and 63rd minutes in Ipoh to give Perak a 2-0 lead on the night, before D. Kenny Pallraj and Nazrin Nawi struck late in a 4-0 win.

It takes the Bos Gaurus through to an October semifinal against Malaysia Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).

Mehmet Durakovic, who won the Malaysia Cup both as a player and coach with Selangor, came up with the perfect tactics to stun Dollah Salleh's side.

The Elephants had seemed in the box seat after taking a two-goal lead from last week's first leg in Kuantan.

JDT could only draw 1-1 at home to Melaka United on Sunday night, but prevailed 5-2 on aggregate in their quarterfinal to set up a meeting over two legs with Perak next month.

At Larkin Stadium, Nazmi Faiz gave JDT a 20th-minute lead before Brazilian import Felipe equalised from the penalty spot on the cusp of half-time.

The other big story of the night was the comeback of Felda United, who'd lost 3-1 at home to second-tier PKNP FC in the first leg.

After conceding within the first 10 minutes against the tournament surprises to fall 4-1 behind on aggregate, Felda scored four unanswered goals -- two from Wan Zack Haikal -- to win 4-1 on the night, and 5-4 on aggregate.

B. Satianathan's side will play defending champions Kedah in the last four.

Kedah defeated Selangor 1-0 in the second leg in Alor Setar for a 4-2 victory on aggregate. The only goal of the game was a 30th-minute penalty from Sandro.

This is the 91st edition of the Malaysia Cup, with Kedah defeating Selangor on penalties in the 2016 final.
