Amri, Andik and Forkey Doe aim to win over Selangor fans in MSL

Selangor startlets Amri Yahyah, Andik Vermansyah, Francis Forkey Doe and Rufino Segovia have big points to prove to bring back the Red Giants fans, according to head coach P. Maniam.

The Malaysia domestic season resumes next week with Malaysia Super League (MSL) matches on July 1, followed by the group stages of the Malaysia Cup on July 4.

Seasoned internationals Amri and Andik have been given a warm welcome in their return to the state side, but Maniam does not want them to take anything for granted.

"All these individual players must be fully committed, they must show good character and give everything they've got," Maniam told ESPN FC.

"They cannot take it easy, just because they are high profile players. When they work hard to show dedication to the club, only then will the fans return."

Amri is back with the Klang Valley giants four years after leaving them for Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), followed by a short stint with Melaka United earlier this season. Andik also feels like a new signing after being reinstated to the team following a long term injury.

And Doe will be desperate to repair his reputation after being taken into police custody last month for possession for an unauthorised vehicle.

These trio, along with recent signing of Segovia, are expected to hit the ground running to maintain Selangor's assault on both fronts.

The Red Giants are equal sixth in the Malaysia Super League (MSL), and will push hard to make the Malaysia Cup final for the third consecutive year.

On paper, Selangor look most likely to get out of their Malaysia Cup group that also contains JDT, Sarawak and Terengganu.

To fit in the new arrivals, Maniam is tinkering with other combinations to go along with his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

He added: "We are also testing the 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1, to fit in all our attackers. But firstly, we need to get these formations right in the training ground.

"That will take practice and I am counting on the dedication of my players."

Former Atletico Madrid forward Segovia is hoping to make an immediate impact after signing a six-month contract with the Red Giants.

"I know that Selangor that a big team, and I have a big point to prove in my six months here," Segovia told ESPN FC.

"We have so many games coming up, and it is important that we understand each other and how the team plays. I am here to score as many goals and help my teammates."

The former Kitchee man looked at ease in Selangor's friendly against PJ Rangers on Tuesday, scoring a brace in a 3-0 win.

Maniam's men will play T-Team at Selayang Stadium in the MSL on July 1.

The Terengganu-based club defeated Selangor 1-0 in the reverse fixture on April 26.
